Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that, Police hasn’t any right to punish or hit for ordinary person without any reasonable manner in every moment.
But police has capability to hit a person in some instances where a person can be assaulted by the Police and it was mentioned in Chapter 89 to Article 99 of the Penal code that it is right to personal protection and Article 23 of the Criminal Procedure code.
The DIG said that if a person reject arrest, he or she can be arrested by using least force and can be used to the point of death in the event of a threat to his or her own safety of the public.
Now Harassment of police officers has dropped down around 90%.
The police spokesman revealed this information during a program held with a private TV channel.
