Online strike will continue! – Joseph Starlin

The General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Starlin says that it is the government and the police that decide to detain himself and his group in quarantine centre.

It is said that they were taken on the orders of the Director General of Health , but where he issued such an order?
he said that all this was being done at the behest of the government and the police.

Even after being granted bail by the court, he was taken to the Mullaitivu Air Force Base for quarantine.

He says he strongly opposes the privatization and militarization of education through the Kotelawala Act and that it cannot be suppressed by police arrests during protests.

He says this clearly emphasizes that the so-called quarantine is to repress trade union struggles and legal action will be taken against this.

He also said that the trade union action to stop the provision of online education by teachers would continue and although it was launched against the repression, the repression was not over yet and that the trade union action will also continue.

He recalls that even though the teachers provided education to the children at their own expense at a time when the Ministry of Education had no program, only 40% of the children were able to get an education and 60% of them did not receive any education.

He was speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo on the 17th.
