Lohan Ratwatte, Minister of Prisons says that for the first time in the history of prisons, 260 inmates who were sentenced to life imprisonment have been released.
He said this at a media briefing held at the Minister’s residence in Mahaiyawa, Kandy, adding that this was the first time such a relief had been granted since 2002.
The Minister said that out of the 260 persons who were released on the occasion of Vesak Full Moon Poya Day, 53 have been released and the rest will be released in the near future.
