ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ස්ත්‍රී ලිංග ඡේදනය/ female genital mutilation (FGM) සඳහා හදිසි ක්‍රියාමාර්ගයක් අවශ්‍යය බව පෙන්වා දෙමින් එංගලන්තයේ වෙසෙන ශ්‍රී ලාංකික වෛද්‍යවරයෙකු වන වෛද්‍ය පියල් පෙරේරා ජනපතිවරයාට ලිපියක් යොමු කර තිබේ. ලිපියක් ඒ මගින් මානව හිමිකම් කඩවීම් මෙන්ම කාන්තාවන්ගේ සහ ගැහැණු ළමයින්ගේ ආසාදන, දරු ප්‍රසූතියේදී ඇතිවන සංකූලතා සහ දිගුකාලීන මානසික කම්පන ඇතුළු බරපතල සෞඛ්‍ය අවදානම් ද ඇති කරන බවයි ඔහු පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ. එය කිසිදු ප්‍රමිතියකින් තොරව වෛද්‍ය කටයුතු පිළිබඳව නුපුහුනු පිරිසක් විසින් සිදු කරන බවද ඔහු අවධාරණය කරයි. වෛද්‍ය පියල් පෙරේරා මහතා මේ පිලිබඳව සාක්ෂි සටහන් සහිතව සිය ෆේස්බුක් පිටුවේද සටහන් කර තිබුනා.

Urgent Action Needed to Address Female Genital Mutilation in Sri Lanka
Dear Mr. President,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention a matter of urgent concern: the prevalence of female genital mutilation (FGM) in Sri Lanka. As a global advocate for human rights and gender equality, it is imperative that we take decisive action to end this harmful practice.
FGM not only violates the basic human rights of women and girls but also poses serious health risks, including infections, complications during childbirth, and long-term psychological trauma. Despite efforts to combat FGM worldwide, it continues to persist in Sri Lanka, affecting countless lives and perpetuating gender inequality.
As the President of Sri Lanka, you have the power to enact change and protect the rights of women and girls across the country. I urge you to take immediate action by implementing comprehensive legislation banning FGM, increasing awareness through education and outreach programs, and providing support services for survivors.
Furthermore, I encourage you to work closely with community leaders, healthcare professionals, and civil society organizations to address the root causes of FGM and promote gender equality at all levels of society.
Mr. President, by taking a stand against FGM, Sri Lanka can set a powerful example for the region and the world, demonstrating its commitment to upholding human rights and ensuring the well-being of all its citizens.
