President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has made a special request to the Maldivian government to allow Muslims dying from the epidemic of Sri Lanka to be buried in their homeland.
Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid tweeted, “President Mohamed Ibrahim Soli has begun talks with government officials in response to a special request by Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to support the holding of the Islamic last rites of Sri Lankan Muslims dying in Covid 19 in the Maldives.”
However, the leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress has pointed out to the Maldivian government that burying Sri Lankans in another country with the intervention of the government is a violation of their human rights.
