Abolish pornographic publications in Sri Lanka

A few months ago, a background designer of a reality show reported an incident of child abuse.  The police at the time had doubts as to whether he had kept the videos for sale abroad as he had abused the children and videotaped them.

Not only that, but it is observed that the chances of various people using young children for subtle pornographic expressions are now increasing.  This is especially true in the field of tourism.

Sometimes these people who have small children for a hat or a chocolate, earn a lot of income from it.

The government has observed a steady increase in the use of child pornography, information technology and other media in recent years.  The government states that the provisions of the Penal Code and the Obscene Publications Ordinance deal with such matters, but that those provisions have not been found to be adequate in the present circumstances.

Accordingly, the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) and the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Unit, on the advice of the Attorney General, have prepared a document containing the information required to draft a new bill and a new bill based on that document.  The proposal made by Hon. Ali Sabri, Minister of Justice, to advise the Draftsman, was approved by the Cabinet.
