32 state institutions are running at a loss.

The Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) says that 32 state institutions in the country are incurring serious losses.

According to the COPE Committee, Sri Lankan Airlines has been identified as the highest loss making state institution with a loss of Rs.372 billion. Also, the Ceylon Electricity Board and the CWE have been identified as big loss making institutions.

Investigations have revealed that many of these companies have suffered losses due to alleged corruption, irregularities and poor performance during the previous government. Also, the economic impact of the corona situation which has been going on for more than a year is said to be another major reason for these companies to incur losses in some way.

Therefore, Lankadeepa reports today that a special program has already been launched on the special instructions of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa to make these institutions profitable immediately.
