Dr. Malkanthi Galhena, a specialist in the Ministry of Health, said that it was clear that the number of Covid infections was rising again. She also said that the origin of the COVID-19 patients found in the country has not been identified so far.
“Cases which the origin cannot be identified have been reported. It shows how widespread the virus is in the community, it is a dangerous situation. Accordingly, strict adherence to health practices is a necessity and the people should act responsibly ” Dr. Galhena stressed.
Children who are infected Covid but have no symptoms are now at increased risk of contracting various diseases. It is reported that such a child is being treated at the Gampaha District Hospital. Tests carried out on the child who was admitted to the hospital due to persistent fever revealed that he had contracted Covid six weeks ago. The present symptoms are said to be post-Covid condition.
At a time when the country is returning to normalcy, there is a risk of a re-emergence of a Covid wave if the number of infected people increases again, Deputy Director Dr. Hemantha Herath had said recently.
Meanwhile, Dr. Anwar Hamdani, COVID-19 Coordinator and Director of Technical Services at the Ministry of Health, urged parents not to send their children to school if they or their family members have COVID symptoms or become the first contact of a positive patient.
