Now the people who created Black January are in power right now, Ajith Parakum states that they are taking action against journalists violating the rules of the ICCPR Act.
He was speaking at a media briefing held today (02] at the Janaki Hotel in Colombo. The main theme was “Another January is over, journalists must stand up.”
Ajith Parakum Jayasinghe further stated,
“Media repression is carried out in a selective manner and is carried out by the government, allies affiliated to the government, powerful religious leaders affiliated with or without the government, in defiance of the ICCPR Convention. But the bill is not being used to deal with these people. However, this bill has been used against journalists, writers and artists based on very few incidents. It has become the main strategy of the government to control the media at this moment. The perpetrators of the recent Eknaligoda and Lasantha Wickrematunge murders have not been brought to justice and justice has not been done to them. ”
