Although PAFFREL, an election monitoring organization, calls on citizens and organizations representing various levels of knowledge as well as society to focus on the national significance of the Corona epidemic, the deadline for a more advanced electoral system. Please provide feedback and suggestions.

The Parliamentary Select Committee appointed to look into the electoral and electoral structure and the forthcoming reforms in the electoral laws has decided to consult the public. The organization says this is a very optimal move.

The electoral structure as well as the legal provisions relating to elections need to be seriously amended to suit the current political context and especially to exercise the right to vote, which is an element of people’s sovereignty without hindrance or influence. PAFFREL says that this will provide an opportunity for citizens as well as organizations who wish to make a positive change in the electoral system to submit proposals and ideas for electoral reform.

Those proposals can be submitted in writing or by email to [email protected] before June 19, 2021 and if public comments or suggestions are made in writing, the Secretary, Special Parliamentary Select Committee on Electoral Reforms, PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi further stated that it is possible to send a letter to the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte.
