Two opposition parties have stated that they will keep doors open to members who have anticipation of the transfer from one party to another party. Those parties are Samagi Jana Balawega which led by Sajith Premadasa and the United National Party, which Ranil Wickremesinghe holds the only seat won by party in the Parliament.
UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardena had said that the party had not closed its doors to anyone who previously left the party. Former minister Wijewardene further stated that, “Majority of members of SJB is our friends and former UNP MPs”. He shared these thoughts at a meeting at the Janaki Hotel, Colombo in last weekend.
Responding to this Rehan Jayawickrema, Secretary of the Social Development and Social Working Committee of the SJB tweeted that the door of their party was also open for UNP members. He has further added a condition stating that doors are open to any UNP member who is not tainted by corruption and / or who has not been a participant in the bond scam.
Moreover, he lost the post of Mayor in Weligama area, because of changing his party.
Neither party had said anything, about whether the doors were open to members of other parties or possibility of leaving from the open doors.
