New Zealand Human Rights Commission investigates on housing crisis

New Zealand’s Human Rights Commission has launched an investigation into the country’s housing crisis.

New Zealand governments have signed up for a very important human rights. It’s all about the right to a good home. They have promised for generations that they will create the conditions for everyone to live in a good home, but that has not happened. Incumbent governments have failed to grant this right to New Zealanders.

Paul Hunt, Chief Human Rights Commissioner of the New Zealand Commission on Human Rights, said in a statement, governments in power are responsible for this massive human rights failure that is harassing lives and communities.

With cheaper access to capital and very low interest rates, property prices have risen 30 percent in the past year, Reuters reported. Because the government does not have enough housing to house families, people are tempted to seek refuge in places like motels.
