Though P.B. Jayasundara thought Covid was over, Covid risk is still not over

Ravi Kumudesh, chairman of the Joint Federation of Paramedical Professionals, says that “Though P.B. Jayasundara thought Covid was over but according to the health sector Covid is not over yet”. Then there is a problem in calling all government employees to the work that saying Covid is under control especially at a time when the death toll is rising daily.

He questioned whether PB Jayasundara alone was not aware of the fact that even the Ministry of Health today admits to the media that there is a high risk of spreading Covid. He points out that the number of patients is increasing day by day and he emphasizes that the increase in the number of patients is not due to the identification of new patients through tests but because the patients who identify the symptoms themselves, and come to the hospital to seek treatment.

According to the manner in which the Ministry of Health conducts PCR tests, more than 80% of patients who do not show symptoms are undiagnosed. Therefore, there may be few times higher number of patients in society than currently reported, he stated. Ravi Kumudesh has also said that there are more patients in every ward than the number of beds in the hospitals today.

He added that the death toll from 40-50 had risen to 67 today and that the number of deaths in hospitals without proper treatment would have doubled and tripled and that there were a large number of preventable deaths. Ravi Kumudesh stated this at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (02).
