More than 50 Sri Lankan lands to be leased out to foreigners

The government has been accused of selling and leasing land in Sri Lanka to foreigners. Especially the lands in Colombo city and the lands in Jaffna were mentioned among them.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka News website reports today (15) that the government plans to raise at least $ 6 billion by leasing more than 50 key lands in the city of Colombo and its suburbs to local and foreign investors.

According to the report, 51 percent of these plots of land will be handed over to state-owned public-private partnerships or joint ventures. Wijewardena Mawatha, Colombo; Nugegoda and Kollupitiya markets, Pettah World Market with four acres; Rajagiriya, Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha and Battaramulla three acres each; And lands in Nuwara Eliya and Kandy and fifty five acres of land have been identified as lands belonging to this lease process.

Earlier, a company called M / S Shumookh Investment and Services (SIS) in the Sultanate of Oman had expressed interest in acquiring the nine-acre Pettah Chamas Granary and Air Force Headquarters, but this has not yet been implemented.

Meanwhile, a Korean investor has expressed his desire to buy the land where the Welikada prison is located.

The government is currently planning to move the Welikada Prison to the Horana area and has decided to hand over the land to an investor, a weekend newspaper reported.

According to this information, a large number of lands in the country will be leased out in the future.
