An Extraordinary Gazette notification has been issued imposing a maxim retail price of a coconut between Rs.60 and Rs.70.
The gazette notification in this regard was issued by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
The notification read, acting under powers vested by Section 20(5) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No.9 of 2003, no producer, distributor or trader shall sell, expose, or offer for sale or display for sale coconuts beyond the stipulated price.
Accordingly, coconuts with a circumference of over 13 inches will be sold at Rs.70, coconuts between 12 and 13 inches at Rs.65 and below 12 inches Rs.60.
The order is effective as of yesterday, the 25th of September
