Mahara prisoners wanted to escape from the prison…

The Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya says that 25 suspects who led the riots in Mahara Prison and 150 suspects who were actively involved in it have been identified and brought to Welikada Prison.

He says there are 11,762 detainees in prisons, but the recent increase in drug raids has increased the number of suspects to 32,000, and drug traffickers are in a precarious position due to overcrowding.

He said that several gangs of drug traffickers had created a riot at the Mahara prison without any basis, putting forward the Corona issue and that when they went to talk about the Corona issue, they had problems with not being granted bail, but their ultimate goal was to escape from prison.

The Commissioner General of Prisons said that Mahara had drugs in the pockets of all the injured and that all those involved in the clash were intoxicated and that all of them who had given statements so far had taken a pill, but it had not been revealed whether it was a pill given for mental illness.

He said that the superintendent of the Mahara prison had done his best during the incident and that the prison officials had not even gone among them and used batons and had taken all necessary steps to quell the riot responsibly step by step.

He said this in an interview with a youtube channel.
