Saman Rathnapriya, President of the Government Nurses’ Association, says that people today do not want to get PCR tests because they do not want to be tortured if they are found to be positive.
He says the government took action to control Covid in the first wave and implemented certain programs when the disease came and they were not 100% successful.
He said the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) as well as its own associations had called for the closure of places such as Mattala and Katunayake to stop people from entering and leaving the country, but it was too late and people like China had already arrived in the country. He also points out that some people did PCR when they came and some did not do PCR when they came.
