A program by the title ‘Let’s not Forget’ will be held on the verge of Buddha Statue on the 31st January at 4.30 p.m. at viharamadevi park Colombo in the memory of journalists who have been murdered, disappeared and assaulted over the past few decades and calling for justice to them.
This program is organized by the journalists associations and srilanka young journalist association for their rights
It is no secret that large number of journalists have now been murdered and disappeared who wielded the pen and camera to exercise their inalienable right to freedom of speech and expression. Even after decades there is tojustice made for those cases which is more alarming and tragic.
Who are the killers of these journalists? Why were they killed? Who ordered to kill them? The truth about these has not yet been revealed.
As the organization says, although it is the responsibility of the state to reveal the truth to bring the justice and fairness for the victims and their families, the srilanka state has not yet been able to do it and in such situation the colleagues of the journalists who were murdered should remind about the situations and perpetrators to be punished.
The journalist’s association and srilanka young journalist association invites all those who value democracy to bring a candle and participate in the event.
