Lawyers are recruited to the police as Chief Inspectors of Police.

The Ministry of Justice has decided to recruit 150 Attorneys-at-Law as Chief Inspectors of Police.

The request was made to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa by Justice Minister Mohamed Ali Sabri.

Accordingly, a special discussion in this regard was held at the Ministry of Justice today (11) under the patronage of the Minister of Justice, President’s Counsel Mohamed Ali Sabri. DIG Ajith Rohana, SSP Ruwan Gunasekera, PC UR de Silva and Additional Secretary (Legal) Piyumanthi Peiris were also present at the discussion.

After receiving the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers, they will be recruited to the Police Service after conducting the relevant interviews and they will be able to obtain promotions according to their skills.

After recruitment, they will be attached to all nine provinces of the country and will be given special training in law and police. The Attorney General’s Department has also agreed to provide the training.

The Minister of Justice believes that these lawyers who are recruited as Chief Inspectors of Police should have special knowledge of the Tamil language as special qualifications and thereby have the potential to win over the Tamil speaking people.

The Ministry of Justice further stated that they need to have knowledge of technology and will be attached according to their service requirements after completing the relevant training.
