1/3 Cabinet members in Parliament are corrupt…

It has been reported internationally that 1/3 of Sri Lanka’s cabinet members have been appointed by Government who were despite for allegations of corruption, fraud or murder.

ITJP executive director said in a statement from Johannesburg, South Africa said that, “Respect for the rule of law means that if an officer is charged with a crime, he or she must clear his or her name before being promoted to the highest office in the state”

“Ten of these MPs have accused them of being a political manhunt during the previous regime.  The problem is not there.  All are equal before the law.  The transcendence of the judiciary and the institutions that support accountability will have disastrous consequences for institutions that protect the rights of citizens.’’

The ITJP released its latest critique of the Sri Lankan rulers the day after it handed over to President Gotabhaya Rajapakse a more than 2,000-page report by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Political Revenge.

Retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne, Retired Court of Appeal Judge Daya Chandrasiri Jayatilake and retired IGP Chandra Fernando were members of the three – member commission.
