Decision of Wimal on 20 th Amendment today…

Minister Wimal Weerawansa stated that although he does not agree with the issues regarding dual citizenship, but he will vote in favor of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

The Jathika Nidahas Peramuna, the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, the Democratic Left Front and the Communist Party of Sri Lanka have decided to vote in favor of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

At a media briefing held in Borella today, the party leaders said that although their parties had earlier decission was changed, after a discussion with President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa yesterday afternoon.

Minister Udaya Gammanpila said that the decision was taken at the request of the President at a very emotional meeting. However, he added that the President accepted his own arguments.

The President further stated that the new constitution will be incorporated within the next year and the clause on dual citizenship will be included in the constitution and  will make a statement via Minister of Justice Ali Sabri  to Parliament today.

He further said that all his proposals have been included in this amendment except the dual citizenship barrier.
