38th anniversary of Black July

38th anniversary of Black July

Thirty-eight years have passed since the Black July, which left a black mark on the history of Sri Lanka. Remembering the incident and demanding justice for those who were killed, lamps were lightened near Torrington Independence Square yesterday.

Speaking at the occasion Secretary of the United Socialist Party Siritunga Jayasuriya said,

Today marks the 38th anniversary of Black July. Such thing should happen in our country again. Racism has killed 56 Tamil prisoners on Black July. No investigation has been carried out so far. No government has expressed condolences for them. Incidents based on racism have happened in our country recently. All Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims should unite against these things!
