Former parliamentarian Duminda Silva, who was sentenced to death has been released along with a group of LTTE suspects, because the government is well aware that no one can protest against it, young artist and director Jagath Manuwarna says.
He said that the country had been demanding the release of Tamil political prisoners for many years and that was an incident that had spread to the international community. If someone opposes the decision of releasing Duminda Silva, then the government could question their opinion on releasing of Tamil prisoners as well.
He also points out that such a social turmoil has arisen due to the incidents related to former Mp Duminda Silva and regarding his relief, also there are some people who are being released from prison without any publicity.
He stated this at a public discussion which held on Thursday (24th) afternoon.
