Where is the justice for the journalists? – Tharindu Jayawardena

Former Secretary of the Young Journalists’ Association, Tharindu Jayawardena says that justice has not yet been done to the journalists who faced torture. Those who attacked Poddala Jayantha are still at large.

In addition to the killings of journalists, he says it is unfortunate that the law has not yet been enforced against journalists’ torture incident such as Poddala Jayantha, Keith Noyar and Upali Tennakoon who were tortured in the recent past.

He said that although several suspects were arrested in connection with the Keith Noyar incident, they were later released and the case is still continuing, adding that the suspects of Poddala Jayantha’s case are still at large and even the police officers who tried to cover up the assault are still at large. But the officers of the CID who investigated the matter have been transferred.

He also recalled that Prime Minister and the President had taken steps to protect that Navy Commander at that time even though he had beaten a journalist .

Therefore, he told the public that no one should ever justify these torture incidents and necessary action should be taken to prevent these torture as what happened to them today may happen to you tomorrow.
