27 cases seeking compensation for Easter victims…

Relatives of the victims of the Easter Sunday terror attack have filed 27 cases before the Colombo District Court seeking compensation for the physical and mental damage caused to them by failing to act despite intelligence.

Former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, former IGP Pujith Jayasundara, former Director of State Intelligence DIG Nilantha Jayawardena and the Attorney General have been named as respondents.

According to the plaintiffs, the security forces had already received intelligence regarding the terrorist attack on Easter Sunday.

However, the plaintiffs have stated in court that the terrorist attack was due to the failure of the respondents to perform their duties properly and as a result their relatives were killed and several others were injured.

The plaintiffs have filed 27 cases in the Colombo District Court seeking an order to recover compensation from the respondents for the mental and physical damage caused to them as a result.
