Women get top positions in the police!

A new page in the history of the Sri Lanka Police Department was written yesterday (07) with the promotion of three former SSPs to the rank of Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police at the same time.

Accordingly, the former Senior Superintendent of Police, N.D. Seneviratne, A.R. Jayasundera, W.J. Padmini has been promoted to the post of Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police.

Accordingly, the number of female DIGs has increased to four.

Earlier, Bimshani Jasingarachchi was promoted to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police for the first time in the history of the country.

However, a group of senior police officers from the Police Department have filed a case against her promotion to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police. They say that there is no police system for appointing women but men to the post of DIG.

There are several instances of direct recruitment to the Sri Lanka Police. They are for the posts of Police Constable Driver, Police Constable, Sub Inspector and Assistant Superintendent of Police. The police have a separate service for men and a separate service for women.

Women are recruited to the police force for the posts of Women Police Constable, Women Sub Inspector and Women Assistant Superintendent of Police. There were a limited number of posts in the women’s cadre of the Police Department. Therefore, there are instances where women have had to retire without promotion after spending many years in the same position. However, the creation of new posts up to the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police in the women’s cadre has taken place systematically over the past decade.

It has now expanded to the post of Deputy Inspector General of Police. In the future, a system is being set up for women to reach the rank of Inspector General of Police, which is a great opportunity for all female officers in the Police Department. Or they may end up receiving less treatment in the police department and retire without promotion.
