Why did the Chinese Defense Minister come to Sri Lanka?

 

Chinese Defense Minister General Wei Feng arrived in Sri Lanka on a two day official visit last night (27).

He and 37 other high-ranking officials arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake at 10.50 last night on a special flight B-4026 belonging to the Chinese Air Force.

The delegation is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and other senior government officials.

Who is this, General Feng

General Wei Feng was born in February 1954 in Liaochen, Shandong. At the age of 16, he joined the People’s Liberation Army in December 1970. He graduated from the Commanding Department of the Second Artillery Command Academy in 1984 and was promoted to General from the ranks of the Second Artillery Corps. In October 2012, Jing Xuan was appointed Commander of the Second Artillery Brigade, and in November 2012 he was promoted to the rank of General.

In January 1972, V joined the Chinese Communist Party. Wei was an alternate member of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and a member of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

On March 19, 2018, Paddy was appointed Minister of National Defense and Member of Parliament.

He was awarded the Veeta Nishan-e-Imtiaz Award on December 1, 2020 for his work in promoting defense cooperation between Pakistan and China.

Chinese Defense Minister Wei Feng’s visit to Sri Lanka is aimed at enhancing military ties as well as political and economic cooperation, Chinese media have reported.

Foreign media have pointed out that Wee’s visit could coincide with a decision by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka on the port city.

However, the Chinese media reports that India is not so keen on this visit to China.
