Ten remanded due to commemorating in Mullivaikkal, Batticaloa

Ten Tamils, including women who arrested due to connection with the commemoration of war deaths, have been remanded by a court.

The suspects were arrested by the Kalkudah Police on 18th May at the Kiran Beach in Batticaloa on the occasion of the 12th Mullivaikkal war death commemoration.

Ground level activists in the area said that the father of the owner of the coastal land was arrested a few hours later the commemoration, in following quarantine guidelines.

The owner of the land, Wimalasena Lavakumar, who said that his father did not know anything about the commemoration, was detained by the Kalkudah Police when he went to inquire about it.

The other nine were later summoned and arrested.

The Valachchenai Magistrate has ordered to remand them until the 16th of this month and allowed the police to do further investigations.
