Teachers’ unions in the country alleges that a cabinet paper has been prepared to create a post in the Ministry of Education under the name of Director General of Sports and to appoint an unsuitable person on the basis of political affiliation.
The Ceylon Teachers’ Union states that in accordance with the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service Minute, a competitive examination should be held and qualified persons should be formally recruited for the posts relevant to education administration.
However, Joseph Stalin, the General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union, has condemned the appointment of a new Director General of Sports to the Ministry of Education in violation of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service Minute.
