Dr. Qibla Ayas, Chairman of the Islamic Ulema Council, read out a joint statement at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Sri Lanka, calling on the clergy of various denominations to take stern action against the perpetrators.
He emphasized that the killing of Priyantha Diyawadana was an inhuman act and that it was not in accordance with Sharia law to accuse anyone of blasphemy without evidence.
“We commend the Government of Pakistan for taking stern action against the perpetrators of this incident,” Sri Lankan High Commissioner Vice Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama told the media after meeting the Ulamas.
