More than 40 arrested on suspicion of raping a girl

The number of people arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in Mount Lavinia has risen to 42.
According to court correspondents, this is the highest number of people arrested in Sri Lanka on suspicion of sexual misconduct.

The name of a buddhist monk, a former finance minister of the Maldives, two police officers, a lieutenant colonel in the navy, a politician from the North Central Province of the SLPP, a singer and a bank manager are included in suspect list who bought the 15 – year – old girl for sex through the internet.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrema ordered that to remand design administrator and website owner of LankaAd.com, the website that advertised for sell this girl for sexual purposes, until the 11th August.

Websites have banned

Also the Colombo Additional Magistrate ordered the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) to take necessary steps to ban such malicious websites in the country after considering the request made by Attorney General’s Department, the CID and the Children and Women’s Bureau of the Police.

The Additional Magistrate further directed the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) to investigate the allegations that these malicious websites were involved in various forms of human trafficking and sexual harassment and also produce a report consist all the information such as web registration, payment methods and service providence.

After considering the submissions made by the police regarding the nine suspects in remand custody, the Magistrate released them on cash bail of Rs. 25,000 for each and two sureties bail with Imposing a condition to appear in Children and Women’s Bureau every Sunday between 09-12 am.
