“Journalists sacrificed their lives for Right to Information Act” – Former Speaker

When this bill was first presented to the Parliament in 2015, the opposition called it a conspiracy. But by the end of 2015, it has been possible to position this Act as the best Right to Information Act in Asia and the 4th place in the world.

Journalists have even sacrificed their lives for this  Information Act.

The country underwent a change after the Freedom of Information Act came into force. Similarly, after the enactment of this Act, an environment has emerged where the truth cannot be concealed and corruption can be reduced.

And also There has been a great understanding of the right to know information in the society today.

Former speaker Karu Jayasuriya made these comments while participating in the program held yesterday (28) at Borella Namel Malini Punchi Theater on the occasion of International Day of Universal Access to Information under the theme “Ensure access to information and protect rights”.
