The Department of Prisons, along with the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, have initiated a program in an attempt to control both the use and smuggling of narcotics within Prisons across the island.
The program, which was inaugurated yesterday (03), involves the deployment of selected teams of inmates from each Prison, who are then required to discourage the use and smuggling of narcotics within the Prison complex.
Each team is to have an appointed leader, said Prisons Commissioner and Media Spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake, adding that all team will be provided with special training that is scheduled to be carried out over the next two days.
