Apologizes to Bhagya…

Environmentalists in the North are urging the government to apologize for the harassment of Bhagya Abeyratne, who made a TV program to draw public attention to the damage being done to Sinharaja.

The majority of young protesters in Mullaitivu condemned the attempt to silence those who are raising their voices against the environmental destruction that threatens their future.

Protesters claimed that 65 elephants had died in less than three months this year, pointing out that the construction of a hotel on Elephant Pass would have a detrimental effect on wild elephants.

Protesters have called on the government to end the poaching and stop the killing of wild elephants, and to stop cracking down on those who speak out against the country’s devastation.
