Allegations against police officers to be dropped in six months

Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekera, Minister of Public Security says that if all the long charge sheets against the police officers are not completed within six months, they will be automatically canceled.

He points out that human rights cases have been filed against police officers because they have gone to do their duty properly. Therefore, steps will be taken to provide relief to such persons, the Minister said.

He also points out that there are some who have long-standing charge sheets and that when they were appointed to the post of Assistant Superintendent of Police, thirty five persons were not promoted due to these charge sheets.

Therefore, the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and the Inspector General of Police are currently conducting an analysis into the matter.

He was speaking at the Community Police Empowerment Program in the Kandy District.
