Will there be a salt shortage?

A cousin of mine called me last night (31) and told me that there would be a shortage of salt in Sri Lanka in the future and therefore packets of salt should be brought and kept.

I didn’t take it so seriously. But after a while, as I was flipping through the face book, I saw a post stating that there was a salt shortage ahead. It was stated that the reason for this was that the production of salt would be hampered in the future due to the release of dangerous toxins into the sea from the burning ship.

As this salt shortage story spread like wildfire in the villages, some people bought 15-20 packets of salt from the shops. At the moment there is no salt in some shops.

We contacted the Chairman of the Ceylon Salt Company, Attorney-at-Law Nishantha Sandabarana to find out the truth about this.

Salt shortage in Ceylon Salt Company

He said that seawater contains not only sodium and chlorine but also magnesium, calcium and other toxins and that seawater does not make salt at once.

He points out that sodium chloride is formed not only in the Pearl Ship but also in the seawater that goes from bed to bed in the final bed of life.

Mr. Nishantha Sandabarana stated that the water used to make salt is regularly tested by the Salt Laboratory and that it was a process that took place even before the arrival of the burning ship.

As the main supplier of salt to Sri Lanka, he assures that there will never be a salt shortage in the country, he said.

Sri Lanka consumes between 150,000 and 150,000 tons of salt, of which about 50% / 60% is sourced from Hambantota, he said. That.

He said that about 14,000 metric tons of salt has been harvested so far and that more salt will be harvested in the coming days and that it will be possible to supply salt to Sri Lanka alone for more than a year.
