Red light for health sector strike?

Red light for health sector strike?

The whole country is now in a state of shock due to the Covid epidemic. Some who said no to the Kovid vaccine in those days are now looking for that vaccine. In the hope of saving their own lives.

At this point, the health sector is at high risk. They have had to deal with Covid infections. Also have to use public transport. After all this work, they have to go home and spend time with their children, husbands and mothers. In all these cases, the risk is around the health worker. The most recent incident was reported from the Marawila Hospital. When a nurse became infected with Covid, her entire family, including her husband, young child, and parents, became infected with Covid.

Therefore, the health sector has recently requested the government to provide Covid immunization to all health workers and their families who are engaged in Covid control activities at the village level.

But to this day it does not seem to be happening through a formal program. As a result, many health care workers are now frustrated. At a time when health workers are becoming more and more infected with Covid, there are protests from the health unions over the government’s treatment of them.

As a step in this direction, the health authorities have decided to withdraw from Covid repression duties from tomorrow (25) morning unless a formal plan is put forward for this purpose.

President of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Association Upul Rohana says that the strike will begin tomorrow morning with the consent of 18 trade unions affiliated to the health sector, including the paramedical service.

What is happening now is that the vaccine is being used as a privilege, with special attention given to only one profession in a particular hospital or health institution, instead of taking steps to provide vaccines with special care for family members of the health staff.

Meanwhile, the Complementary Medical Services Joint Authority states that it has been reported that a process has been initiated to provide vaccinations to the families of the medical officers specializing in the administration of vaccines and that the Ministry of Health has given permission for this. The association also says that the country has received very small doses of the Sputnik V vaccine and is trying to use the vaccine only for the above purpose.

It would not be unreasonable for any citizen of the country to use all his or her abilities to vaccinate himself or a member of his or her family, but administrative decision makers strongly dislike the use of the vaccine in order to be more considerate of their species. The Complementary Medical Services Joint Authority states.

Patients are helpless when it comes to health care professionals. Therefore, the government should address this issue immediately without further suffering
