Ten Tamil political parties today (Jan. 24) staged a protest in Jaffna against the government’s ban on commemorating the dead of Tamil people.

According to the Today’s Jaffna website, this was made on behalf of the Tamil parties against the government’s protest against the Thileepan commemoration.

Tamil National Party Leader N. Jayasinghe on behalf of 10 parties Mr. Sirikantha said, that ‘Remembrance of the dead – especially those who sacrificed their lives for the Tamil nation, those who lost their lives – is a fundamental right of all members of that nation’

This fundamental right is recognized under international law.  In the present context, we have an obligation to present certain issues to our people.

We have decided to hold a fast at the Devalaya in Jaffna on the 26th of this month.  The right of the Tamils ​​to remember the dead – The right to remember the dead for the benefit of the nation is emphasized and it is emphasized that this right cannot be liberated and must be affirmed under all circumstances and under all circumstances.

In addition, we urge the Tamil people to celebrate Saturday the 26th as a day of prayer to emphasize this right and move forward.

We call for the complete closure of the North and East on Monday the 28th to express our protest and protest against the denial of these rights to the Tamil people.
