Bandarawela Police, issuing temporary licenses without the seal of the police station

It has been reported that a passenger bus driver was severely inconvenienced at the exit of the Kerawalapitiya Expressway due to the negligence of a police officer.

A driver of a private bus traveling from Bandarawela to Negombo has been involved in the incident. This bus driver’s license was obtained by the Bandarawela Police and he was given a temporary permit on the 2nd November. The reason for this is the charge of blocking the road by parking the vehicle.

The driver of the bus, who had obtained a temporary permit, was stopped by the police at the Kerawalapitiya exit on the expressway while working on the bus. He had shown the temporary driver’s license issued by the Bandarawela Police at that time and had reprimanded him for obtaining a fake driver’s license. At the moment the driver of the bus had noticed that the license did not have the stamp of the Bandarawela Police.

Although he had briefed the Kerawalapitiya police officer about the incident, he had continued to threaten the bus driver that he would be remanded.

We inquired about this from the Media Division of the Police Headquarters and they said that the Bandarawela Police had made a mistake in this incident. It was stated that an officer of the Traffic Division carries a temporary driver’s license book after keeping the police seal and without that it is illegal to issue a temporary driver’s license without a stamp.

The Police Media Division stated that the person in charge of this temporary license has a responsibility to check whether he has obtained a proper license. It is also points out that this will help to avoid unnecessary inconveniences.
