Are we really laughing at Chichi?

I saw ‘Chichi’ making fun of the story of teaching Sinhala to his child. My favorite one in that family is Chichi. He is exactly what Sri Lanka represents. I feel like Chichi is walking right in front of us showing our nakedness. Everyone who speaks a lot about the Sinhala nation and language in Sri Lanka is trying to teach English to their children. That is true from Nalinda Silva and Gunadasa Amarasekara. Chichi says it. That is, we see the lie. We hoot at him. Who are we really hooting at?

Chichi has something very beautiful. He likes to do different things. But passion is not for any of those subjects. He likes the social reputation. He wants to get a PhD in mathematics, but Chichi does not like math. Chichi does not like to go into space except to say he is an astronaut. In short, he does not even like to leave Sri Lanka.

Aren’t most of us the same? Do you see a passion for the subject other than a degree? Do you find yourself interested in medicine other than become a doctor? The majority of people want to only wear a stethoscope? That’s it.  They wear stethoscopes and engage in politics. Singing. But we only laugh at Chichi (a few hard working people, don’t get hurt).

Chichi races cars, plays cricket, plays rugby, At the same time, he becomes a very exemplary father. He likes to do all this for the sake of appearing in the photo. He has no real desire for anything but the end result. This is a national quality of Sri Lanka.

We are not a country that produces anything new, but everything that is produced and received by us. We always wanted that position, the fun that status gives.

Chichi shows us live, that’s a parody. We laugh. But are we really laughing at Chichi?
