We as Right to Life Human Rights Centre, condemn the attack on her and we request the authorities to take action immediately regarding the incident. The people who are related to this attack should be brought before judiciary and punished for such planned attack. Amitha Priyanthi – We condemn the attack on Human Rights Defender
Human Rights Defenders are playing a vital in protecting and promoting human rights in Sri Lanka amidst so many hardships and challenges. They face enormous difficulties and life threats during the struggle in protecting and standing for the victims of human rights violations.
In 2002, she was seeking justice to the rights of her brother who has been killed joining hands with “Janasansadaya” (People’s Forum) at Panadura. Specially now Amitha Priyanthi, has been a well-known Human Rights Defender and Activists raising her voice against torture survivors and victims of human rights violations.
On 6th July 2018, as she was travelling from her working place (Janasansadaya at Panadura) to her residence bring the case documents related to her brother’s murder. She has been attacked on her head and the documents and her mobile phone were grabbed by two strangers who have been strategically organized and planned it.
We condemn the attack
on her and we request the authorities to take action immediately regarding the
incident. The people who are related to this attack should be brought before
judiciary and punished for such planned attack. Justice should be ensured to
We believe that this attack is not only to her but the attack to all human rights defenders and activists in general. Apart from it this is a sign to all human rights defenders, activists and organizations that stand for the rights of people especially whose rights are being violated to be in alert and the next victim or the attack is for them.
